II Corinthians 1:3-5
Blessed [be] God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God
of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them
which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the
sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
Ecclesiastes 3:4
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.
Isaiah 25:8
He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces;
and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken
[it].
Isaiah 51:11
Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting
joy [shall be] upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; [and] sorrow and mourning
shall flee away.
Isaiah 53:4
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken,
smitten of God, and afflicted.
Isaiah 60:20
Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be
thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.
Isaiah 61:1-3
The spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good
tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to
the captives, and the opening of the prison to [them that are] bound; To proclaim the acceptable
year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint
unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning,
the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of
righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
Job 5:11
To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.
John 14:1-31
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are
many mansions: if [it were] not [so], I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that
where I am, [there] ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father,
but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know
him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip?
he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou [then], Shew us the Father?
Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto
you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me
that I [am] in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also;
and greater [works] than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall
ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any
thing in my name, I will do [it]. If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father,
and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
[Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither
knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave
you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye
see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I [am] in my Father,
and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth
me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest
myself to him.
Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and
not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words:
and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the
Father's which sent me. These things have I spoken unto you, being [yet] present with you. But
the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach
you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Ye have heard how I said unto you,
I go away, and come [again] unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said,
I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it come
to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. Hereafter I will not talk much with
you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. But that the world may know
that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go
hence.
John 15:1
I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
John 16:20
Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice:
and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
Matthew 5:4
Blessed [are] they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Psalms 30:5
For his anger [endureth but] a moment; in his favour [is] life: weeping may endure for a night,
but joy [cometh] in the morning.
Psalms 51:1-19
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had
gone in to Bath-sheba.
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy
tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me
from my sin.
For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin [is] ever before me. Against thee, thee only,
have I sinned, and done [this] evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou
speakest, [and] be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity, and in sin did my
mother conceive me.
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden [part] thou shalt make me to
know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than
snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; [that] the bones [which] thou hast broken may rejoice.
Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy
presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and
uphold me [with thy] free spirit. [Then] will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall
be converted unto thee.
Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: [and] my tongue shall sing
aloud of thy righteousness. O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give [it]: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God [are] a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not
despise.
Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem. Then shalt thou be
pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering:
then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
Psalms 126:5
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
Romans 8:26-28
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we
ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh
intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God. And we know that all things work
together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.
I Thessalonians 4:13-18
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye
sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the
word of the Lord, that we which are alive [and] remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not
prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with
the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to
meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another
with these words.
