Acts 20:1-38
And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called unto [him] the disciples, and embraced [them], and
departed for to go into Macedonia. And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much
exhortation, he came into Greece, And [there] abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait for
him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia. And there
accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus;
and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus. These going before
tarried for us at Troas. And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread,
and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days. And upon the first [day]
of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to
depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. And there were many lights in the
upper chamber, where they were gathered together. And there sat in a window a certain young man
named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with
sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead. And Paul went down, and fell on
him, and embracing [him] said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him. When he therefore
was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of
day, so he departed. And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted. And
we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he
appointed, minding himself to go afoot. And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and
came to Mitylene. And we sailed thence, and came the next [day] over against Chios; and the
next [day] we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium; and the next [day] we came to Miletus.
For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he
hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost. And from Miletus
he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church. And when they were come to him, he said
unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with
you at all seasons, Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and
temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: [And] how I kept back nothing
that was profitable [unto you], but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from
house to house, Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and
faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem,
not knowing the things that shall befall me there: Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every
city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. But none of these things move me, neither count
I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I
have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. And now, behold, I
know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.
Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I [am] pure from the blood of all [men]. For I have
not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and
to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of
God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall
grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men
arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember,
that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. And now,
brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and
to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. I have coveted no man's silver,
or gold, or apparel. Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities,
and to them that were with me. I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to
support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed
to give than to receive. And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.
And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him, Sorrowing most of all for the
words which he spoke, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the
ship.
Acts 21:1-40
And it came to pass, that after we were gotten from them, and had launched, we came with a
straight course unto Coos, and the [day] following unto Rhodes, and from thence unto Patara:
And finding a ship sailing over unto Phenicia, we went aboard, and set forth. Now when we had
discovered Cyprus, we left it on the left hand, and sailed into Syria, and landed at Tyre: for
there the ship was to unlade her burden. And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: who
said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem. And when we had accomplished
those days, we departed and went our way; and they all brought us on our way, with wives and
children, till [we were] out of the city: and we kneeled down on the shore, and prayed. And when
we had taken our leave one of another, we took ship; and they returned home again. And when we
had finished [our] course from Tyre, we came to Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode
with them one day. And the next [day] we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto
Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was [one] of the seven;
and abode with him. And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy. And as we
tarried [there] many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus. And when
he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus
saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and
shall deliver [him] into the hands of the Gentiles. And when we heard these things, both we, and
they of that place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem. Then Paul answered, What mean ye to
weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem
for the name of the Lord Jesus. And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will
of the Lord be done. And after those days we took up our carriages, and went up to Jerusalem.
There went with us also [certain] of the disciples of Caesarea, and brought with them one Mnason
of Cyprus, an old disciple, with whom we should lodge. And when we were come to Jerusalem, the
brethren received us gladly. And the [day] following Paul went in with us unto James; and all
the elders were present. And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God
had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry. And when they heard [it], they glorified the
Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe;
and they are all zealous of the law: And they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the
Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise
[their] children, neither to walk after the customs. What is it therefore? the multitude must
needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come. Do therefore this that we say to
thee: We have four men which have a vow on them; Them take, and purify thyself with them, and
be at charges with them, that they may shave [their] heads: and all may know that those things,
whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but [that] thou thyself also walkest
orderly, and keepest the law. As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written [and]
concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from [things]
offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication. Then Paul took the
men, and the next day purifying himself with them entered into the temple, to signify the
accomplishment of the days of purification, until that an offering should be offered for every
one of them. And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews which were of Asia, when they
saw him in the temple, stirred up all the people, and laid hands on him, Crying out, Men of
Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all [men] every where against the people, and the
law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath polluted this
holy place. (For they had seen before with him in the city Trophimus an Ephesian, whom they
supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.) And all the city was moved, and the people ran
together: and they took Paul, and drew him out of the temple: and forthwith the doors were shut.
And as they went about to kill him, tidings came unto the chief captain of the band, that all
Jerusalem was in an uproar. Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down unto them:
and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating of Paul. Then the chief
captain came near, and took him, and commanded [him] to be bound with two chains; and demanded
who he was, and what he had done. And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude:
and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the
castle. And when he came upon the stairs, so it was, that he was borne of the soldiers for the
violence of the people. For the multitude of the people followed after, crying, Away with him.
And as Paul was to be led into the castle, he said unto the chief captain, May I speak unto thee?
Who said, Canst thou speak Greek? Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days madest an
uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers? But Paul said,
I am a man [which am] a Jew of Tarsus, [a city] in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I
beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people. And when he had given him licence, Paul stood
on the stairs, and beckoned with the hand unto the people. And when there was made a great
silence, he spoke unto [them] in the Hebrew tongue, saying,
I Corinthians 15:10
But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which [was bestowed] upon me was not in
vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was
with me.
Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Hebrews 6:1
Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not
laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
Hebrews 11
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the
elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the
word of God, so that things which ware seen were not made of things which do appear. By faith
Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice that Cain, by which he obtained witness that
he was righteous, God testifying of his gift: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. By faith
Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated
him: for before his translation he had this testimony that he pleased God. But without faith it
is impossible to please him : for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is
a rewarder of them that diligently see him. By faith Noah, being warned of God of thins not seen
as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned
the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. By faith Abraham, when he was
called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he
went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a
strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same
promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Through faith also ara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child
when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who has promised. Therefore sprang there
even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars in the sky in multitude, and as the
sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. These all died in faith, not having received the
promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them , and confessed that they
were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months
of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's
commandment. By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's
daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, that to enjoy the pleasures
of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches that the treasures in Egypt:
for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the
wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. Through faith he kept the
passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land : which the Egyptians assaying to do
were drowned. By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven
days. By faith the harlot Ragab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received
the spies with peace. And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon,
and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrougth righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths
of lions, Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made
strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their
dead raised to life again; and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might
obtain a better resurrection; And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea,
moreover of bonds and imprisonments: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted,
were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute,
afflicted, torment: (of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains
and in dens and caves of the earth. And these all, having obtained agood report through faith,
received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us
should not be made perfect.
Hebrews 12:1-3
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside
every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race
that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy
that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand
of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself,
lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
Isaiah 43:10
Ye [are] my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and
believe me, and understand that I [am] he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall
there be after me.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 20:24-31
But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other
disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall
see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and
thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were
within, and Thomas with them: [then] came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst,
and said, Peace [be] unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my
hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust [it] into my side: and be not faithless, but
believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him,
Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed [are] they that have not seen,
and [yet] have believed. And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples,
which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is
the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Mark 11:22-24
And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That
whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and
shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to
pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire,
when ye pray, believe that ye receive [them], and ye shall have [them].
Matthew 8:5-13
And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus
saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not
worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall
be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this [man],
Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth
[it]. When Jesus heard [it], he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you,
I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. And I say unto you, That many shall come
from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of
heaven. But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be
weeping and gnashing of teeth. And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast
believed, [so] be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
Matthew 21:21-22
Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye
shall not only do this [which is done] to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this
mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things,
whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
Matthew 25:23
His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a
few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
Psalms 42:5
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and [why] art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I
shall yet praise him [for] the help of his countenance.
Psalms 119:97-105
MEM.
O how love I thy law! it [is] my meditation all the day. Thou through thy commandments hast
made me wiser than mine enemies: for they [are] ever with me. I have more understanding than
all my teachers: for thy testimonies [are] my meditation. I understand more than the ancients,
because I keep thy precepts. I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep
thy word. I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me. How sweet are thy
words unto my taste! [yea, sweeter] than honey to my mouth! Through thy precepts I get
understanding: therefore I hate every false way. NUN. Thy word [is] a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path.
Psalms 119:129-131
(PE.)
Thy testimonies [are] wonderful: therefore doth my soul keep them. The entrance of thy words
giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. I opened my mouth, and panted: for I
longed for thy commandments.
Romans 1:17
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just
shall live by faith.
Romans 3:21-30
But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and
the prophets; Even the righteousness of God [which is] by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and
upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of
the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in
Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth [to be] a propitiation through faith in his blood,
to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance
of God; To declare, [I say], at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the
justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Where [is] boasting then? It is excluded. By what law?
of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith
without the deeds of the law. [Is he] the God of the Jews only? [is he] not also of the Gentiles?
Yes, of the Gentiles also: Seeing [it is] one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith,
and uncircumcision through faith.
Romans 10:4-11
For Christ [is] the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. For Moses
describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall
live by them. But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine
heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down [from above]:) Or, Who shall
descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) But what saith it? The
word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we
preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine
heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man
believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the
scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
