Deuteronomy 6:5-13
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all
thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou
shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine
house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And
thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine
eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. And it shall be,
when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to
Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
And houses full of all good [things], which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou
diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten
and be full; [Then] beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land
of Egypt, from the house of bondage. Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt
swear by his name.
Ecclesiastes 5:10
He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with
increase: this [is] also vanity.
Jeremiah 17:11
[As] the partridge sitteth [on eggs], and hatcheth [them] not; [so] he that getteth riches, and
not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.
Luke 12:15-31
And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in
the abundance of the things which he possesseth. And he spoke a parable unto them, saying, The
ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying,
What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do:
I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease,
eat, drink, [and] be merry. But God said unto him, [Thou] fool, this night thy soul shall be
required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So [is] he that
layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. And he said unto his disciples,
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body,
what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body [is more] than raiment. Consider
the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God
feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? And which of you with taking thought
can add to his stature one cubit? If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why
take ye thought for the rest? Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not;
and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then
God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how
much more [will he clothe] you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what
ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world
seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the
kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matthew 19:24
And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a
rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Proverbs 11:24
There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and [there is] that withholdeth more than is meet,
but [it tendeth] to poverty.
Proverbs 23:4-5
Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is
not? for [riches] certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
I Timothy 6:6-10
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into [this] world, [and it
is] certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and [into] many foolish and hurtful
lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all
evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves
through with many sorrows.
